Introduction As a profession, occupational therapy appears once again to be refocusing its practice to embrace its philosophical underpinnings with regard to the intrinsic relationship between occupation, health and wellbeing. Wilcock (2006) argued that this relationship should become the 'promotional device' through which to raise societal awareness of the value of an occupation-based approach to health and wellbeing. However, in order to achieve this, therapists need to be engaging in research that enables a much deeper understanding of occupation and its relationship to health and wellbeing. This opinion piece suggests that interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) offers a useful methodology for therapists to contribute to this understanding.
